Hayley Okines: Dad says inspirational teen 'knew she was going to die' after leaving hospital yesterday

Dad Mark said the progeria sufferer - who was left with the body of a 104-year-old - said goodbye to her parents, siblings and dogs before passing away at the family home

I think that she knew yesterday was going to be the time."

The teenager, who won the hearts of millions because of her inspirational bravery, was left with the body of a 104-year-old due to progeria.

She wrote an inspirational bucket list which included highlights such as seeing her favourite bands live, getting a tattoo with her friends and finishing college with a good grade.

However, the sense of humour so many people enjoyed is clearly evident.

She wrote: "Get a munchkin cat (probably name it Munchkin)," and "Meet Five Seconds Of Summer (a popular band). Tell them they're idiots. Hug them forever."

Doctors had warned Hayley's parents she was unlikely to live past the age of 13 after she was diagnosed with the condition, which left her ageing eight times faster than normal, as a toddler.

However the courageous youngster defied the medics, starring in a series of moving TV documentaries and even writing an autobiography aged 14 titled 'Old Before My Time’.

Hayley also spoke candidly about her life expectancy

Hayley's mother Kerry announced her daughter's death in a simple but moving statement on her Facebook page on Thursday night.

Kerry, 41, wrote: "My baby girl has gone somewhere better. She took her last breath in my arms at 9.39pm x.”

Hayley died at her parents' home just hours after being discharged from hospital where she has been treated for pneumonia.

In the days before her death, Kerry wrote of her heartache at seeing her daughter's suffering and of the family's desire to have her back home.

On Wednesday she wrote: "It didn't happen today but trying my hardest to get Hayley home tomorrow. Breaks my heart hearing her begging me to take her home x

Hundreds of tributes to the youngster poured into her mother's Facebook page yesterday.

One, Kelly Morrissey, wrote: " Lots of love to you all. Hayley was an amazing girl and a true inspiration.

"She will leave a big hole in more lives that she could ever have imagined. You should all be very proud of your beautiful angel xxx."

Hayley had undergone pioneer drug treatment in the US to give her a new lease of life, but she was unable to conquer the disease.

The teenager, who turned 17 on December 3, had left school last summer and had started a college course.

She was first diagnosed the incurable disorder shortly before she turned two in 1999.

Only around 50 known cases exist on the planet and doctors had warned Kerry and Hayley's dad Mark that their daughter would probably die before reaching puberty

Kerry said: "We decided that if she wasn't going to live long, at least we would make her life special and pack it with wonderful memories.

"So she's been swimming with dolphins, travelled all over the world, met Prince Charles, Kylie Minogue and Justin Bieber and been in several TV documentaries.
