Woman 'stabbed boyfriend to death after he discovered her about to have sex with another man'
On trial: Natasha Elderfield denies murder in a trial at Oxford crown court
A woman stabbed her boyfriend through the heart after he walked in on her as she was about to have sex with another lover , a court heard has heard.
Prosecutor Charles Ward-Jackson said that Robert Dobinson returned to the houseboat he shared with Natasha Elderfield to find Tony Steggles with his trousers around his ankles.
He said a fight broke out and Elderfield, 41, chased after Mr Dobinson and attacked him with a kitchen knife, telling Steggles later: “I’ve stabbed the b*****d.”
She claimed that he had walked on to the knife but then was alleged to have told detectives: “My God, it’s so f*****g funny.”
Charles Ward-Jackson, prosecuting, told the court: “They had been listening to music and dancing and the mood apparently turned rather amorous.
“Natasha Elderfield had on a short dress and for a while she also had on stockings and they were getting affectionate and were on the point of having sexual contact.
“She had spent a very pleasurable evening with her new lover Mr Steggles, drinking, dancing, the promise of sex, and it was being interrupted by her very irritating ex-partner and she was fed up of it.”
Mr Ward-Jackson said: “It is likely that Mr Dobinson knew or suspected about this affair and not surprisingly resented it.
“Within a short space of time Mr Dobinson arrived on the boat. Natasha Elderfield and Mr Steggles were down in the cabin and were about to have sex.
“He [Mr Steggles] had his trousers down when Mr Dobinson came down into the cabin and his arrival must have been extremely unwelcome.”
Oxford Crown Court heard a fight broke out in the “cramped” cabin, with Elderfield throwing crockery at Robert’s head while he struck her with a fire extinguisher.
The jury was told she then chased him out of the cabin armed with an 11cm kitchen knife and stabbed him through the heart, driving the blade right in to the hilt.
Afterwards she came back still holding the knife in an overhand grip and told Steggles “I’ve stabbed the bastard.”
Robert staggered over 100, down the riverbank yelling “help me, I’ve been stabbed” before collapsing and dying in a pool of blood.
Elderfield, a mum of two, of Abingdon, Oxon, denies murdering Mr Dobinson, 33.
The trial, at Oxford crown court, continues.
