Police have arrested a man on suspicion of murder after being called last night to Zaneta Balazova's terraced house in Benwell, Newcastle
A grandad has told how his eight-year-old grandson knocked on his door and said 'I think mum has been killed'.
The distraught youngster raised the alarm last night after finding Zaneta Balazova, 23, at her terraced house in Benwell, Newcastle.
He ran from the house to their grandparents’ home only streets away,
The boy's grandad said he opened the door to see his grandson in distress and ran to Zaneta's house, where he saw her lying blood-stained on the floor.
Police said the mum, who was named locally and also has a six-year-old daughter, was found fatally injured at around 10.50pm.
"My grandson knocked here and said mum may have been killed", the boy's grandad said.
"I ran around to the house and the door was open. Grandma took the children. I opened the door and Zaneta was lying on the floor, she had blood on her."
I ran out onto the street shouting ‘ring for help’. Five to six minutes later the police and ambulance arrived.
"I went to the police station and give a statement and so did my wife. The kids are staying with us now.
"She was nice. She was a good mother. She really loved the kids and the children really loved her."
Paramedics arrived to treat Zaneta but she was pronounced dead at the scene.
A 25-year-old man has been arrested by police on suspicion of murder.
The mum-of-two was originally from the Czech Republic, but it is believed she had been in Newcastle for nine months.
Neighbours spilled out onto the street as police set up a cordon.
